Rev Richard Battersby (Finance Lead)
Richard serves as assistant curate at St Wilfrid’s, Brayton and currently two of his three children attend Archbishop Holgate’s Academy, his oldest child graduated from the school and now attends Liverpool University. Alongside training for the priesthood, in the Church of England, Richard is a qualified accountant and runs his own advisory company.
Prior to moving into the priesthood Richard worked at a senior level with Ernst & Young LLP and also in senior positions within National Australia Group, where he was European Head of Business Information and with Bradford & Bingley where he was Head of Group Finance. During his career Richard has worked in advisory and interim directorship roles with financial services and other industry sector clients in many parts of the world and in the City of London. In a recent role he was Transformation Director for Yorkshire Building Society, leading a £0.5bn programme of change. Over the years Richard has built upon his solid accounting skills to a point where his secular expertise lies in developing, leading and delivering organisational strategy and transformation. He underpins this with significant experience in creating and ensuring the right financial/performance management and risk/governance frameworks exist to allow change to be managed and delivered efficiently and effectively. Richard also blends his secular skills with his Christian ethos and is a strong advocate of creating and developing ethical organisations, exercised in the way they treat people and the planet and the probity they demonstrate in doing this.
Richard has a strong passion for education in how it liberates and frees young people to achieve their dreams, and in his own life he demonstrates an appetite for lifelong learning and is currently working towards an MA in Theology. Richard became a Foundation Governor for AHS in 2013 and he now chairs the Finance committee at AHS which has benefited from his incisive thinking and keen analytical brain, always applied with compassion and consistently with Christian values. Richard is also a regular guest, contributor and has created programmes for Radio York and is an ambassador for ‘World Vision’ an international Christian relief organisation.
